Would extra virgin olive oil work for frying tortillas?

I don’t have any vegetable oil in the house right now, and I was wondering if I could substitute it for extra virgin olive oil, butter, or something? Thanks!

Olive oil will work. Butter would probably work too.

you could but it’d be a waste
if you’re hungry just do it!
butter burns/turns dark fast

You can use evoo to fry things, it has a lower smoking point than veg. oil. So you have to be careful and watch it, and it may add a little flavor to the tortillas that you would not get with veg oil. But will still fry the same. You could try mixing evoo and butter (half and half in the frying pan) to raise the smoke point.

your better of walking down to the shop and buying some vegetable oil or eles your tortillas wont come out right.

Personally, I prefer butter for corn tortillas, and olive oil for flour tortillas. You can use either and still have great results.

You cannot use butter, unless it is clarified, because the solids will burn at a relatively low temperature.

You can use extra virgin olive oil, though some would consider it a waste because it is the most expensive and you don’t taste any difference when frying.

Also, it has a lower smoke point than other oils, but that shouldn’t make an enormous difference for your case.

AHHHHHHHHHH EXTRA VIRGIN, TIGHTER THE BETTER HONEY, I ALWASY STICK WITH THE EXTRA VIRGIN

Use corn oil! It has the best flavor and is better suited for frying than evoo. Evoo is best for dipping and salad dressings. Corn oil has Omega 3 acids and is a very healthy oil. It is, in my opinion, underrated.

Are you deep frying? if yes then n the oil will burn at a very low temp it will be a soggy mess
best to pan fry in butter
or I don’t use anything ad all just a hot skillet to heat for tacos or burritos if you want chips toss with the oil and season then bake at 425 for about 7 min they will be a cross between chip and cracker but still good

Extra Virgin olive oil works for frying, yes.
