Will subsituting something for soy milk change the recipe?

A friend of mine from college sent me a recipe for maple walnut scones from a vegan recipe book he has. The recipe sounds really good, but calls for soy cream, soy milk or rice milk. I have nothing against any of those liquids and have tried both soy and rice milk. But I like my cow milk, and it seems silly to buy a whole thing of soy cream, soy milk, or rice milk for 1/2, when I’m not going to use the rest of it unless I make 8 batches of these scones! Food is expensive enough as it is, I don’t want to spend money I don’t need to spend.

Will the recipe turn out okay if I just use regular cream, skim or 2% milk instead of the soy product? Will I need to change amounts to keep the consistancy right?

It will be fine. It may taste slightly different but given that you love your cow milk it will probably taste better to you. Texture should not change.

only a little bit.

it will taste better to you to use cows milk – i normally drink soy – i have been my whole life – as i get ezcema but occasionally drink cows milk as i love the taste, but soy it has a type of nutty flavour to it – nothing like cows and if you make it with soy products it will taste very different to you and you may not like it.
i know my mum cooks with soy milk as shes vegan and i can instantly taste the soy milk in it – i hate cooking with soy as it spoils the flavor i think and you can taste it and is somehow overpowering- especially with pancakes and porridge where you use alot of milk. keep to what you know and love – maybe one day if your out and about having a coffee with friends or tea with them ask for a side of soya milk and try it, this way you get to try it for free and see if you like it. youll see what i mean . Also there are different soy milks out there and each one taste different – some are a stronger nuttier flavor then others the one i like is – sanitarium so good full cream. cant drink any others as the taste is yuk
