Why was I able to eat fries with peanut oil when I have a peanut allergy?
I went to eat at a fast food restaurant and I had some fries along with my order. Without knowing it, I had eaten fries that was cooked in peanut oil. Oh, but I luckily had my epipen with me
What I want to know is: why haven’t I reacted at all to the peanut oil despite having a severe peanut allergy?
Also, I asked them what oil they used. They told me it was peanut oil

Probably because it wasn’t peanut oil. Peanut oil is very expensive and most fast food joints wont pay for it. They will use whatever oil does not contain trans fats. That is just my guess.
I don’t react to peanut oil. I still stay away from it though. I believe it has something to do with the proteins in peanut oil. The proteins that our bodies find as offensive are in peanuts.. but not in the oil.
Good thing you had your epipen. The last time I needed it, I didn’t have it because I’ve never had to use it before then.
The way the oil is processed changes the peanut proteins into something to which you do not react.
you just need to watch out for cold-pressed peanut oil (more expensive: there is a very high chance you won’t come across it at a restaurant other than a “whole foods” place).
I think you just got really lucky. If you know you are allergic to peanut oil, it isn’t wise to keep eating something and testing this allergy out. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to this but just chalk your experience up to luck and be careful in the future.
