Why should I switch to Soy Milk instead of Cows milk?
My daughter-In-Law brought over some soy milk for Easter breakfast and some tea and we made Chai teas.
She said the the cows milk makes her stomach ache and I should try it because sometimes I feel the same way.
Do you know why Soy milk is better for me?
Can I use too much soy for a woman age 53?
Have you ever tried Rice Milk?
My other daughter in law uses that.
What would the benefit of that one be over the others? Have you tried it?

Soy milk contains more estrogin (dontknow how to spell) than regular cows milk. It has all the benefits of milk though. I drink it because cows milk gives me stomach aches. You could try drinking both. Some cons of cows milk is that so many hormones are being put in the cows now….it kind of creeps me out so i enjoy soy more
It’s only of value if you happen to be lactose intolerant; or, if you just like the taste better.
Soy milk is a great substitue for people that have lactose tolerance issues.
However, soy naturally contains phyto-estrogrens. This can be great for women going through menopause. People that have had things like breast cancer sometimes can not have soy products because of the levels of estrogen in them. If you’ve had breast cancen, it would be something to consult your doctor about….if not, then soy milk is fantastic!
My field is in fashion, as a result many people ask me how they can slim down. My answer is always the same: good diet and exercise. But I found this great product (all natural) which I think helps a lot in the process (it’s really good for detox, you’ll feel much healthier). I recommend you check this website , they have a free trial and you only pay $4.95 shipping and handling. Good luck!
There are two camps on the milk debate. I’ve read a couple of books about it and there are a couple of popular books out recently that touch on the subject, most recently the book, Skinny B**ch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin. One of the authors holds a Masters of Science degree in Holistic Nutrition and they are adamant against cows milk. Their argument (one of them) is that milk is for fattening up baby cows! Cows’ milk, by design, grows a 90-pound calf into a 2,000 pound cow over the course of two years and then they stop, they no longer need their mothers’ milk any more, as we do not. We are the only species on the planet that drinks milk as adults, much less the milk of another species. But the dairy industry has built milk, butter and cheese into our lives, when actually Dairy products have been linked to a number of health problems and disorders and there are other ways to build our bones.
I have to admit that I am still phasing out my cow’s milk (although I have used non-fat, skim, lactose free milk for years and I use so little of it that I don’t know why I still buy it).
I also still buy butter and cheese, but I do buy soy milk on a regular basis. There are several brands and they are not all created equal. Try them all until you find the one you like the best. We tend to buy the Brand SILK. My husband likes the chocolate one, I will warm up the chocolate one in evenings sometimes.
I also buy the regular Soy milk as well as the vanilla. The vanilla, I can often find in extra fiber and extra calcium varieties.
I have often bought Rice Milk and I like that as well, but I don’t think it’s as nutritious. Instead of buying it in the refrigerator section, I’ll often get it from the shelf section and keep one or two in my cupboard so that I have backups, just in case I run out of options.
My mother really likes Almond Milk. I’ve tried it, but it’s just a personal preference that I like Soy and Rice Milk better.
I suggest that you do a bit of reading and perhaps ask your doctor, but I don’t think that a woman aged 53 can necessarily drink too much soy very easily. I would think that you would need to drink a lot of soy for that to happen. I’m 45 and I drink soy, eat edamame, eat miso… It also depends on what studies come out when (you and I both know that what they tell us know will change in 5-10 years)
I’ve read several studies that say that soy can help menopausal symptoms and most everything I’ve read has also said that there is no evidence that shows that eating soy can be harmful so, you just have to choose for yourself!
