Why are eggs found in the dairy section?

The question “are eggs dairy” has been asked, and since eggs don’t come from cows it makes sense that they’re not dairy.

Why, then, are eggs in the dairy section? And if they are, are they automatically grandfathered into being dairy products?

They are in there because they are to be kept cold, its not like you can go set eggs beside cookies or can foods… Keeping them cold keeps them fresh…

Well I’m sure it’s more of a convenience for the store to place eggs in the dairy section, or at least right next to it, since both eggs and dairy products need refrigeration. I’d say that’s the most likely reason.

However, the grocery store in my town recently remodeled, and they moved their eggs over to the refrigerated beer section, on the complete opposite side of the store to where the dairy section is. When I think of eggs, the beer aisle is the last place I’d think to look. Putting eggs in the dairy section just makes more sense to me.

so they can be refrigerated.there are many other things not dairy there also
