Where do sesame seeds come from?
My husband recently told our 5 year old that if she picked the sesame seeds off her bun and planted them in the ground that she would grow a hamburger tree. Ofcourse she was so excited. Then I had to tell her that’s not rue and that daddy ws just joking. But then she asked “what will they grow into?” IDK the answer to that. So, where do sesame seeds come from, and what do they grow into?

Sesame seeds come from Sesamum indicum probably a native plant of the Indian subcontinent. Un-hulled seeds are beige in colour and have a stronger flavour, while hulled, washed seeds (as shown here) are creamy-white. Sesame seeds have a nutty, earthy flavour which is enhanced by light toasting before use. They are ready when they start to jump in the pan. They are used in savoury and sweet dishes and to garnish foods like breads. The pale, golden oil is used for cooking.
Sesame (Sesamum indicum) is a flowering plant in the genus Sesamum. The precise natural origin of the species is unknown, although numerous wild relatives occur in Africa and a smaller number in India. It is widely naturalised in tropical regions around the world and is cultivated for its edible seeds.
Sesame seeds come from a type of bush. processed seeds will not grow into bushes.
