If you do have “chronic” post nasal drip you need to be seen by an ENT doctor. If it is just with seasonal allergies or the occasional cold you want to take a medicine with some form of antihistamine in it. Like non drowsy benadryll. Don’t take it constantly though only if you have the symptoms. You could also ask for Zyrtec or Alegra.
One of the most practical of the natural sinusitis remedies almost seems too simple. Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day is the first step to thinning the secretions to clear or keep sinuses clear. Another valuable simple treatment is just to inhale warm steam. That can be done in the shower or over a pan of hot water. Steam at least once a week for maintenance. If there is an infection, more frequent steaming is necessary.
Irrigating the nasal passages with simple salt water washes away the infected secretions. This solution can be made at home, or it is available to be purchased as a package along with the irrigation equipment. Running a humidifier is another simple method to keep nasal passages moist. Prevention is always best, but most of these methods will also help resolve an active infection.
There’s this vitamin c drink that you can find in any health food store and target. One of the names for it is EmergenC and it has something like 1500 mg of vitamin c. It’s sold in a box full of individual packets. Whenever I have a really bad cold, I drink atleast two a day and it really helps clear it up fast! Also if you are just beginning to feel like you’re getting sick, drink one and you won’t get sick. It really works well for me. Just make sure you add sugar. Get well soon!
Ok this is weird but it works, gently pour warm salted water into your nose. This washes out pollens and other irritants. We wash every other part of our bodies why not the inside of our noses? Also try drinking Nettle tea, you can find it in health food stores, drink it 3 times a day until drip is gone. Best of luck to you.
you said you have a “cough” not a nasal problem, so try honey, honey in tea, honey losinges, or honey cough drops till it clears up.
Chronic sinus infection and allergic rhinitis are two common conditions causing postnasal drip and the resultant irritating cough. Both get exacerbated during any viral cold. Two simple investigations that can help diagnose these are X-ray paranasal sinuses and nasal eosinophil count. Sinus infection will require treatment with a course of antibiotics and allergic rhinitis usually responds to 8 weeks course of topical intranasal steroid sprays.
“Neti” can also be tried as a long term measure to keep such conditions away.
