What noodles can I use to make okonomiyaki?

You know the kind with noodles on top and bottom? What noodles can I use other than buckwheat noodles? Can I use normal ramen or Chinese yellow noodles? And prior to frying the okonomiyaki itself, do I have to cook the noodles? (Steaming, boiling?)
