What is the difference between condensed milk and regular milk?

Can you substitute regular milk with condensed milk for oatmeal? If so will it taste any different than if I was going to use regular mik?

Condensed milk is heavier and has a lot of sugar added to it. If you want your oatmeal sweet and kind of more of mush then you can add that but it would turn out more like candy. It was used a while ago when the soldiers couldn’t bring fresh milk onto their trips so you could try.

Condensed milk has sugar and has been, essentially, condensed…it is very thick and gooey.

Evaporated milk has no added sugar, but it the same consistency of cream.

If you had to use something in oatmeal OTHER than milk, I’d say go for the evaporated and add a bit of water to taste. However, I wouldn’t use it…I’d go with a nice slice of toast instead and wait for the milk.

condensed milk is usually called “sweetened condensed milk” which is like milk with most of the liquid taken out, and sugar added

the other version is called ‘evaporated milk’ which has the liquid taken out, but it’s not sweetened.

Since it’s condensed, you have to add water to it, to make it the same consistency as milk. The can probably has directions on the back to do so. The milk will be sweet though, but in oatmeal it will probably taste good.
