What is the best repellant, (besides cayenne pepper powder), to keep dogs from digging?

I have an 8 month old Lab Puppy who just keeps digging everything I plant in my back yard. The only thing that seems to work is cayenne pepper powder, but with all the rain, it is a hassle to keep applying. Any suggestions for something that will have some residual effect.
Thanks.

The pet department at Walmart has a spray called Stay OFF that you can spray on stuff to keep animals away from it. Digging? Maybe a rolled up newspaper is your best bet.

If your dog is digging in the same spot … try burying some of his poop in the hole before filling it. He won’t dig there anymore.

bring him outside on a choke chain leash. Bring the dog to the latest hole..let him sniff it then jerk the chain. when you let the dog out …be there..sit and watch and each time you see him digging say something…. be stern..the dog will get the message… have toys for the dog but don’t allow him to mess with your stuff.

Exercise.
Your dog is digging out of boredom.

The other thing you can do is get a kong appropriate forher size and chewing ability, fill it with goodies and freeze over night. Then put it in the yard with her to keep her busy, and away from digging.

I also suggest getting your dog spayed or neutered, as that will decrease the desire to dig out and roam the neighborhood.

You can also stand outside with your dog (sorry if you find this inconvenient) and firmly and with authority say “No!” when your dog starts to dig. You can enforce the “No” by clapping after you say it, or tossing a pop can of pennies after you say no, if your dog does not respond to just the sharp, “No.”

I have a similar situation in that I have two dogs (one is 2 years the other is 6 months) who love to destroy plants. They don’t dig at the plants when I’m in the yard with them, so the “correct them immediately with a sharp no, or whatever” answers don’t work. If I put poop in a hole they’ve dug then they will avoid that spot but they will go dig another. They get plenty of exercise so as far as boredom goes I can’t entertain them 24 hours a day. They have multitudes of toys to chew in the back yard, but they prefer plants. I’ve just stopped planting things for now until they get older. If the cayenne pepper was working I’d stick with it.
