What if a lactose intolerant person continues consuming milk and milk products?

I think I have lactose intolerance. I understand the symptoms of bowel movement once milk or other dairy products are consumed, specially in a big amount. Yet, I love milk and milk products and do not plan on giving them up for the rest of my life. My question is: apart from the temporary discomfort after consuming lactose, is there any built-up harm on the long run to my body, like what happens in celic disease for instance? Thanks!

I believe you get an upset stomach. Switch to soy beverages and soy cheese, same idea only not lactose-y!

It doesn’t sound like you’re lactose intolerant. You may just be a bit sensitive to lactose.

I had issues with lactose intolerance when I was child. My symptoms were stomach cramping and a need to urinate but nothing would come out.

There aren’t any long term side effects that I know of, it’s just uncomfortable. Actually, they make tablets that can help your body digest lactose. You can buy them at CVS or any pharmacy.

Being lactose intolerant is usually just caused by the lacking of lactase in the digestive system, resulting in stomach distress and diarrhea. Most of these symptoms can be prevented by just taking a lactase supplement along with the first bite of dairy you consume.

Try getting some lactaid, its an over the counter medication, and it will provide you with lactase to correctly digest the dairy you consume.

The lactose irritates the digestive tract and makes it hard for your body to break down food.

Also you will likely become anemic from iron loss due to irritation of the intestines.

You can just take lactase then you can digest lactose

One thing to try would be drinking organic milk. It may be more expensive, but some people that have a reaction to regular milk, don’t when drinking organic. Another thing to try would be getting raw milk, but make sure you get it from a reputable source. The pasteurization of milk takes away some of the enzymes in it which make it easier to digest, which may also be your problem if your not sure that you are really lactose intolerant.
