What good things does Extra Virgin Olive Oil do for the hair? What are some good ways to use it on my hair?

After I finish my protein conditioner I am Thinking of using Olive Oil as a hot oil treatment before I shampoo my hair, I heard it strengthens the hair. I am also thinking of using a mixture of Aloe Vera gel, glycerine, and olive oil as my homemade leave in conditioner. What do you think?

I hope in a couple of months the only commercial products I use will be my shampoo, and heat protectant.

I use olive oil based suds in my bath every day. Since it is soap-free I don’t need to rinse so it stays on my body including my hair. I feel nice a moist with healthy looking hair. ^_^

From experiance, I know that olive oil can remove gum and tape from hair, and when I took out the gum, my hair felt oily, but very smooth and shiny. That was back when I had hippie-hair. *shudder*. Olive oil makes my tortise’s shell shiny!

I have used olive oil on my heavily highlighted hair as a conditioner and it has done wonders. It has given me back the shine, manageability and strength that was processed out. I didn’t even have to use it as a hot oil treatment. I would highly recommend it. Good luck !

i was told that you put it in your hair and leave it in for a little bit and its ment to make your hair shiny all it did to my hair is make it reallly greasy haha but some people say it works

Olive oil works great on my hair. I leave it in for about 30 minutes without the hot oil treatment and then shampoo it out.

It leaves my hair soft, smooth, and stronger. Just make sure you wash out all of the oil because your hair will be greasy the nexy day.

Hope I helped!= )

Olive oil is a great hair and skin conditioner; but neither hair nor skin will be able to tell the difference between extra virgin and lesser grades. Your taste buds might though.

I am a licensed cosmetologist, and I can personally tell you that I tell my clients that olive oil is one of the best hair treatments you can give your hair. Its a cheaper and more affective hair in skin remedies that you can ever buy. Olive oil has all the natural fatty acids and Omega-3 that your body naturally absorbs well and craves, and your hair and scalp needs it too. When we shampoo our hair, we strip the natural oils from our scalp that provides the moisture to our hair, and thats exactly what makes us shampoo more because it messages our body to produce more oil so we strip it out again.
Olive oil is a natural way of replenishing what we strip out. It clings to the shaft of the hair and penetrates through it. Most commerial hair treatments only treat the outside of the shaft making it appear and feel healthier but it doesn’t actually help it heal the damage, because very few products have ingredients that will absorb through the hair shaft. However, it will do you no good if you do not leave it on for atleast 1 hour or more. It takes awhile for hair to absorb anything that you put on it, thats why alot of the time even with the most known and leading hair products such as Paul Mitchell the mask and Paul Mitchell Super Strong Treatment, go wasted because the back of the bottles tell you to leave them on for just 3-5 minutes like all treatment products. Its more beneficial keep any hair treatment on for an hour with a shower cap and sit under heat if possible. Heat helps your hair absorb any product quicker and more effectively.

The one thing I try to tell people is once your hair is hair is dead, theres really not much you can do to revive it, all you can do is treat it the best you can, and make a habit of treating it because the healthier parts will revive and continue to get better… Get someone to cut of extremely damaged hair because there really isnt hope for that. I hope this helps whoever reads this looking for solutions to helping there hair, my most sincere and honest answer is that olive oil is the best remedy out their for you hair. Most hair products even in the best salons as far as treatments go, just skip penetrating your hair and have leave you wasting your money. I just recommend you spend more of your money a very good shampoo and “more” nurishing and mosturizing conditioner and styling products… and use olive oil as a treatment don’t waste your money on hair treatments.
