What do I do to tinned mackerel to make them taste nice?

I have two tins, one in olive oil and one in sunflower oil. I was thinking maybe curried mayonnaise but I’d like something better. Any Ideas?

Mackeral is a naturally oily and delicious, healthy fish, but the oil can be a bit overwhelming.

You might want to consider a bit of a marinade in lime juice, green onion, some heat via jalapenos, cilantro… think Ceviche, the Caribbean treat!

All of the health benefits, some real significant and fun flavors… How can you lose?

Best wishes!

Lots of Mayonnaise, garlic, pepper, and any other spices you can throw in there. Seriously, try some dill, maybe rosemary, anything you fancy. But definitely Mayo., garlic and pepper. Try it as a cake: Add just enough Mayo. to moisten it, add some pepper and garlic to spice it to your liking, get some bred crumbs or crush some saltine crackers. Make the prepare mackerel into palm-sized circle cakes (MAYBE an inch thick), then coat them with the crumbs. Get yourself a pan and put a tad bit of oil in it, then fry it up. Maybe 2-5 minutes on each side. Tarter sauce goes well for dipping.

Seriously, I’ve done it with Salmon (Salmon Cakes), Crab (Crab Cakes), Tuna, and I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with Mackerel.

If all else fails: Cut up an avocado with it, add a bit of olive oil, pepper and lemon juice, then eat it. Maybe with some crackers, if you like.

Iwould drain off the oil and Grill them.Squeeze lemon and Season to taste.
Serve only with toast and a side salad.Adding too many other “bits” will take away the lovely fishy taste.
