What color will the foal be?
I have a Sorrel Quarter Horse mare with a flak mane and tail. I bred her to a line back dun with black mane and tail. What color will the foal be? (BOTH HAVE BLAZED FACES and socks)

Horses don’t always blend when they breed so the foal may look just like momma, daddy, or maybe something completely different! It would be too hard to tell.
Hard to say…My guess would be sorrel with some chrome (white).
But you never know, you might get an unexpected surprise!
Hard to say my solid paints’ momma was solid black and his papa was black-white paint he came out buckskin with red main and tail. Just have to wait.
You can’t know until it comes out, which an awesome surprise! But since sorrel is a dominant gene there is more of a chance it’ll come out sorrel, or it could even turn out bay. It also depends on what the grandparents looked like. Also, the baby could turn out with no white markings too. but most likely it’ll probably be a sorrel with a couple socks, and a face marking. You might even get a dun, which would be nice!
the foal could come out any color for all you know the foal could come out white it’s based on there ansters from far back so it could be any color.
You have a chance of getting a sorrel, red dun, or regular dun like daddy. Sorrel is a recessive gene, so any other doninant color that is present will show up. If the dun parent is carrying two copies of the dun gene, you could get a red dun or regular dun (50/50). If he’s only carrying one copy of the gene, you can still get a sorrel like mama.
Who knows… It could be a Bay do you want us to figure out the gender too?
Here this will help. We need more info to help with this answer…. so I just gave you this site because it rocks!
Ok. your’re more than likely to have some white markings on the face and legs. It all depends on the dun factor in the stallion. You may come out with a buckskin, red dun, or possibly a grullo. and it depends on the mares gene pool. If she has 4 example and SS gene then the foal will for sure be a sorrel. Which ever parent has the more dominant gene is what you want to look at. you can look back through records to tell that.
what color dun? if it’s a red dun, then you most likely will get a sorrel or red dun. if grulla, who knows?
Based on the link McCain/Palin gave you and the info from your question,
Smoky grullo
Smoky black
Buckskin
Dunskin
Dunalino
Palomino

Impossible to guess… you’d have to look into their backgrounds, for starters. My horse was from a sorrel mare and a black and white overo paint, he came out sorrel with white markings. Unless you figure out what dominant and recessive traits run in both parents bloodlines and do some genetic research, it’d be difficult to decide what colors and patterns your foal will get.
