What brand of flax seed is the best to buy?

I have been reading a lot about the benefits of flax seed but have never eaten it and need some tips. What should i look for when selecting a brand. Do i need to go to whole foods to buy it? Are there different types? What are some things i should look out for ie what i don’t want the seed to contain, where i don’t want it come from etc. is it better to use the seeds or the oil? Also what are some tasty recipes that contain flax seed?

They sell bags of it in the baking section of my local supermarket. Sprinkle it on yogurt, add it to meatballs, meatlof, any baking; it adds little or no flavor but lots of good fiber. The oil is expensive, comes in a tube in the vitamins aisle. It can not be heated or it breaks down. I mix it with regular salad dressing; also adds little or no flavor.

I would go to your local health foods store in your city. Try the smaller ones. Like for instance, here in the West, we have Vitamin Cottage and Whole Foods. I shop at Vitamin Cottage myself. If you were to shop at Whole Foods, it will be more expensive. Ask the people that work there. They are very helpful and knowledgeable.

Golden flax seeds are best, and be sure to get the whole ones and grind only what you will use immediately in a coffee grinder. They go rancid pretty quick, its the oil. I also think organic is best, because why would you supplement with something good and put junk in your body!

Just look on the internet for the recipes. Lots of raw foodies include flax as a health food and they will have recipes.
