Vegetable oil for butter?
My wife’s making a chocolate sauce, and knows that canola or vegetable oils can be used to substitute for melted butter in some cases. For a sauce, is this the same thing? It calls for 2 sticks of butter, but we only have one left. Can a half cup of canola/vegetable oil be used instead of melted butter?

I wouldnt suggest doing that, it will change the texture of the sauce and the taste.
I wouldn’t make the substitution for a chocolate sauce, I can’t imagine you’d be happy with the consistency or the taste
I’d suggest you use the 1 stick of butter, then thin it out w/ a little milk or cream — not oil. That would be yucky in chocolate sauce!
I think it would give it an “off” taste. Can you just cut the recipe in half? Or borrow a stick of butter from a neighbor?
yes, but it will not taste as good. go out and buy another pound of butter
