Truly vegetarian found in Central/South America?
I want to travel to Central and South America, but am worried about being able to find completely vegetarian food. I know that lard is often used in everything from rice and beans to tortillas and such…. Anyone know what foods (besides plain fruits and vegetables) are not normally cooked with lard. What about gallo pinto– I hear conflicting things… does it have lard???? Thanks for the help!

Here are some web sites. Probably the best sugestion is learn the language enough to say meat or lard in that?? Also find out what the traditional vegetarian meals are and make sure you ask is there lard in that??
Learn to eat a lot of vegetables and fruits and just be a little savvy in eating. Good luck have a great time but do research
oh my god ! you wont be able to find anything that is truly vegetarian besides veggies! It sucks. When I went to mexico I had to bring my own food! i brought canned mock duck. Besides that I ordered salads with tons of avocado and a plain baked potato! I went to this half vegetarian place called 100% natural and ordered a soup which was SUPPOSED to be vegan, but i found a piece of real chicken in it! Gross! bring your own food!
