Check with your department of fisheries, but typical method is the clipped fin.
Talk with locals to find out if the trout in your area. As said above, a clipped fin is a sign that’s a stocked trout. But most places don’t have wild and stocked trout, and a LOT of places just have stocked trout.
Wild trout taste better.
