question about milk protein allergy babies?
My daughters 1 year old in 2 weeks. Since she was 10weeks old she has been on nutramigen as the first 10weeks of her life when she was breastfed and then tried cows milk formula she was very sick EVERY feed, never slept etc – it was horrendous until we switched to hypoallergenic formula and she was diagnosed with milk protein allergy.
I saw the doctor a month ago and he said to try and introduce cows milk into her diet through foods slowly to see if she can take it now shes a year older but shes been sick everytime ive tried – the only thing she can tolerate is butter on toast. She cant even have cheese or milk based yoghurts (she has soya yoghurts instead). Which clearly means if she cant even have foods with cows milk in giving her straight cows milk wont work. I have an appointment with her paediatrician again next week but i was wondering what is the best milk to put her on and if anyone has any experience or has been through this? soya milk? rice milk? ive heard goats milk doesnt have as many proteins in it? Just wondering if anyones had a baby with milk allergy and wondering what you did. Shes fine on soya yoghurts so im thinking about soya milk…any advice is much appreciated xxx

Soy products actually contain more pesticides than most other products, it is also one of the most genetically modified food products out there if that is something that concerns you.
Rice milk is more palatable and easily digested, Almond milk is loaded with good protein and nutrients.
Goat milk is a good alternative as it does not contain the same proteins, some however cannot tolerate cow or goat milk.
My daughter has been on Alimentum since about 6 or 7 weeks old. She can eat mac and cheese, yogurt and some cheese products. When we tried whole milk, she got an instant rash on her mouth and her lip got swollen. She was on soy for 5 days when a bad rash came out, it has conisided with a flu shot, so we have no idea if this is a reaction to that shot or the soy, she is back on alimentum until we can test and find out. We will do the allergy testing to know for sure.
Soy is a good option though and there are even sweet treats for your LO if she can tolerate that. About 15 ro 20% of milk allergies also have soy allergies.
I am not sure about the goats milk though, I have thought or rice milk and vitamin suppliments of soy doesnt work for us.
Good luck
I am going to star this question because I would like the answer as well. My son is 7 months old and the doctor told me to slowly introduce food with milk in it. Well I tried and it didn’t work out. My son has been on Allimentum since he was about 6 weeks old.
