Morning workout and breakfast question?
i have a lot of weight to lose and I’m eating very healthy and i workout daily i usually drink water and eat some fruit & oatmeal or quinoa or something along that line and then workout for about an hour my question is ive been doing a lot of research on nutrition and ive been hearing for ppl early morning workouts like mine to drink 24 oz of water when i wake up then do my workout and then come home and eat breakfast or a smoothie afterwords. What are your thoughts on this good or bad? it kind of makes some sense doing that because it wont be burning off the food you just consumed instead forces for body to burn and use the stored up fat as the energy source i cant remember exactly what the articles said but what do you think good or bad idea?

You should definately drink water and exercise then eat because you will burn more fat calories this way
You will have more energy for your workout if you eat first.
It depends how early before your workout you eat. If you eat several hours before, you can eat more complex carbs like the quinoa or oatmeal, but if you get up and excercise right away, eat simple carbs (white flour like a bagel or english muffin) because your body converts these to energy more quickly.
I find I have much more energy if I eat a little first. I eat a wheat english muffin with some peanut butter about an hour before my morning excercise, then sometimes I have a smoothie with fruit, milk, and protein powder afterwards, preferably within about 30 minutes after the workout.
You have a significant amount of carbohydrate fuel stored in your muscles and liver. Enough to power a pretty intense hour workout or more. Whether you eat before or after has little or no impact on fat burning during the workout. That’s not a constant, but its close.
Weight loss is dependent on total fuel used vs. total fuel taken in (food/calories) over time.
I have heard that it’s best to eat before exercising and when waking up drink up water 2 glasses consisting 12 oz. each which is what you are drinking..24 oz. Cool!
I heard that by skipping breakfast it’s just as if you were to fast..because your body goes into shock even though you don’t feel it. Also by doing so it slows down your metabolism A WHOLE LOT!
I think your in the right track!
For breakfast I drink one 12 oz. glass of water then eat oatmeal with walnuts, raisins and a pinch of cinnamon followed with a cup of fruit: watermelon, grapes, grannyapples, melon etc.
Then drink another 12 oz glass of water with my multivitamin (one aday for women)
I hope this helped and keep doing what your doing…however if you do have more questions ask your physician that’s your best bet.
Good luck!
It’s best to have something in your stomach when you exercise. I usually drink some water and have a spoon of peanut butter or some dried apricots & almonds. That sort of ‘wakes up’ the metabolism. Then I workout and come home and shower and eat a regular breakfast.
