making squash and yams, Im allergic to butter and margarine. what can I use to flavor instead?

I LOVE the taste of butter on lots of things! But I cant have it right now, because it upsets my stomach. Im making squash for dinner and I really want to put something on it after its cooked to resemble the taste of butter. or at least give it some flavor. Let me know if you have any ideas!

Hm . . . honey seems like it might taste good with squash & yams.

Cook with stock cube.
How about a spread made from oil.

Roasted garlic has a warm nutty flavour. Tiny bits of diced peppers and some cloves and cinnamon make an interesting savory sidedish. You can add an egg for richness and bake in a casserole dish to develop a nice crust on the top for a little crunch and texture contrast.

There is a oil made to taste like butter, in my grocery it is by the popcorn. Or try maple sugar or brown sugar. sage and parsley with a touch of evoo would be good or even with marinara sauce.

Maple syrup is great with squash if you going for the sweet taste.
