I’ve had a Blackcap in the Garden this past week. Is it a rareity? What can I do to encourage it 2 stay?
I think it’s eating the berries on some ivy. It’s certainly taking water from the bird bath, and hopping about in the bushes. I believe it’s a male, because its head is black and he is white and grey.
I’m so pleased, because although we put out birds seeds and lard balls, apart from our regular Robin, we only get sparrows and black birds. Bluetits and Bullfinches pass through sometimes and occasionally we have a Jenny Wren. I’d love to know what else we could do to encourage these to remain.
Sorry forgot to say that I am in Devon UK

Where are you at would be the question? It’s hard to answer without knowing a geographical location.
I agree, without knowing your location we how can I tell you if it’s rare. Blackcap Chickadees usually hang out around pine trees. If you have pines then you’ll have blackcaps if in the Northeast.
check this out it tells you some intresting things and will help you in your quest
Give it what it needs.
suet or peanut butter with sunflower seeds
We raise birds and have a natural habitat. We always have plenty of left over feed for our wild friends. First research the species know what they eat. and their natural territory . I have found if you keep plenty of feed out with a lot of variety in the mix . it will encourage them to stay, If they are native to your area. We even put out fruit and veggies. Most birds migrate for long distances and just stop off…………..Keep on birding its fun………….
