Mono means “one” and di means “two”. How many halves does the bean seed have?
in addition, one cotyledon comes from each part of a seed.
If there is one part to a seed, you will have 1 cotyledon and a monocot and if there is 2 parts to a seed there will be 2 cotyledons and a dicot.
Lima beans are dicots.or dicotyledons. Seeds that split easily in two parts like peanuts, beans and peas are dicots. Those that don’t, are monocots:, monocotyledons. corn, coconuts etc. The second identifiable feature is the number of leaves on the emerging plant. If the leaf stalk has two leaves or cotyledons on emerging seedling, it is a dicot. The second set of leaves are called the true leaves. It is now safe to transplant. If a single leaf emerges and doesn’t split it is a monocot.Like onions or lillies. There are several other clues that further differentiate the monocots from the dicots. The prefix mono means one. The prefix di means two. You have two parts to your seed like a peanut. You have a dicot. seed.
if each half of the seed iis a seed leaf, this means there are two leaves: dicotyledon.
