Is there something I can substitue for Peanut Oil?

I have a recipe that requires peanut oil (stir fried rice) and I love it the way it is but my room mate is highly allergic to peanuts and don’t want any contamination issues in the apartment. What can I substitute, that won’t change the flavor too much?

Use a flavorless oil like canola. It can take a lot of heat like peanut oil.

MsPiggy,

If it were me, and I were you, I’d use a mix of sesame oil and wesson (canola) oil. The sesame oil will be a nutty delicious (but strong) flavor and the wesson oil will stretch it some. You don’t want to use 100% sesame. Use maybe 1/3 sesame, 2/3′s wesson for any amount that you are using. A pat of real butter is good in fried rice as well.

ps. Read all labels carefully to make sure that there is no chance that the sesame oil was packed in a facility that also does peanut products.

Just use canola. It stands up to high heat (high smoke point) and my Chinese boyfriend’s family uses it for all their dishes. It’s also much healthier than peanut oil.

vegetable oil, corn oil

vegetable or canola (DO NOT USE Seame if she’s allergic to nuts, she will have a reaction to this as well.

I like sesame oil in rice, try it.
