Is there anytinng I can use instead of Corn Syrup?

I am making mints and it calls for light corn syrup. I don’t think I have any, so is there anything else I can use? Is corn starch the same?

No… cornstarch is a thickener. It’s a solid ingredient, similar to flour. Corn syrup is a liquid sweetener, similar to molasses. I’m not sure you could substitute ANYTHING for it! Even dark corn syrup or molasses or cane syrup would change the color & taste of mints…..

Candy is very temperamental. If the recipe calls for corn syrup, you can’t simply substitute another type of sweetener. The whole recipe would need to be adjusted.

Either you can run out and buy some corn syrup, borrow some from a friendly neighbor, or google for a recipe that uses table sugar instead.

To answer your question about corn starch, it’s not a substitute. It happens to come from corn, but that’s where the similarities end. Corn syrup is liquid sugar. Corn starch is powdered starch used as a thickening agent.
