Is there a difference between the SPICY crushed red pepper (found in pizza parlors) and GROUND Cayenne pepper?
I see questions about ground peppers and they all have some response about them not being spicy. I am referring to the spicy crushed red pepper flakes you find at pizza places and actual spicy ground Cayenne pepper. Is the a noticeable difference in taste, level of spice or whatever.
Are they not both used to just spice up the food?

they are 2 different types of peppers. I like cayenne because it doesn’t burn your whole mouth, it hits the back of your throat with the spice. red pepper flakes burn my whole mouth.
~ They are the same thing!!
Cayenne pepper is considered to be misnomer by the American Spice Trade Association, which prefers the more generic term red pepper. Generally speaking any of a number of peppers are called cayenne.
The Cayenne is a red, hot chili pepper used to flavor dishes, and for medicinal purposes. Named for the city of Cayenne in French Guiana. The fruits are generally dried and ground, or pulped and baked into cakes, which are then ground and sifted to make the powder, Cayenne pepper. Cayenne is used in cooking spicy hot dishes, as a powder or in its whole form (such as in Szechuan cuisine) or in a thin, vinegar-based sauce. It is generally rated at 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville Units.
Crushed red pepper flakes are made from hot dried red peppers, normally cayenne, which have been crushed. Frequently there is a high percentage of seeds as well making for a very hot addition to foods. Used in cooking or as a condiment with various foods including to top pizza.
