Is it ok to eat peanuts while breastfeeding?
I have heard conflicting evidence that you should avoid peanuts and peanuts products like peanut butter while breastfeeding to prevent an allergy. I have read a few articles saying that breastfeeding women should not avoid peanuts but not eat them in excess and the infant should be just fine. What do you think about eating peanuts and peanut butter while breastfeeding? There is not history of food allergies in my family that I know of.

I’ve read that its okay unless you have a family history of peanut allergies or food allergies in general.
I had lots of peanut butter while prego and while breast feeding and all is well in our world! =]
I agree with Evie’s mama. I had PB and J sandwhiches a lot when I was preggers and had honey in my tea. I didn’t do this until I read up that it was okay to do. I can’t remember word for word what I read, but I know that as for peanuts if you don’t have food allergies that run in your family then the chances of you giving your baby an allergy is very slim and honey and all that… the botulism in honey digests (or something like that) before it even gets to the baby. Like I said, I can’t remember word for word. But it’s okay you’re good to go on the peanuts.
As far as I know it’s only bad if you have a history of peanut allergies in the family. If there’s no family history of it, go ahead. It actually helps with your milk production!
My thought is that what goes into the breastmilk is diluted a bit, so actually eating the allergy prone items would be better when breastfeeding so baby can show mild forms instead of full on attacks and you’ll know earlier on! But just a thought, no science to back it up!!
