Is Corn Syrup suppose to replace sugar? or do you add them both in cookie dough?

ok, i had an old friend that made the best peanut butter cookies, they were soft, thick and chewy.and told me the secret was to add corn syrup. but he didnt tell me if he substituted the sugar, or if he added them together.

So I would like to know do i suppose to add the sugar and corn syrup, or just corn syrup? if i only add corn syrup. how much do i put in the batch?
the recipe calls for 3/4 cup of sugar. so if i suppose to subsitute, then how much corn syrup do i need.

I would take out 1/4 cup of sugar and put in 1/4 cup of corn syrup. 3/4 cup of corn syrup sounds like a lot.

Sounds like a good cookie though, I’ll have to try it!

Good luck!

use honey its natural, and dont put you pounds of weight on your flesh!

sugar is considered a liquid ingredient in most all recipes…so adding the corn syrup as you would sugar should be fine….and I think it will give the texture you are looking for…

just to let u know, the secret to chewy, moist cookies is to not over bake them, underbake them a bit and u have to melt the butter before adding it in to the cookie mixture…very important!!! here is a super recipe that i just adore! i promise it will be even better than the other one!

1 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
Combine ingredients and drop by teaspoonfuls on cookie sheet. Bake for 8 minutes. Let cool. Recipe doesn’t make very many, so you could double recipe as you desire.

also note..when making cookies, using brown sugar makes the cookies chewier and tastier!!

The recipes I’ve seen using corn syrup only use a couple of Tbls. Just add it after the eggs and finish mixing as directed.

Here is an old recipe I found on-line:

Peanut Butter Cookies

INGREDIENTS:
1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/3 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup light or dark corn syrup
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

PREPARATION:
Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside. In a large mixing bowl, beat together shortening and peanut butter; add sugar and cream until light and fluffy. Blend in corn syrup; add egg and vanilla and beat until light.

Blend in sifted dry ingredients, mixing well. Shape dough into small balls; place on greased baking sheets and flatten with tines of a fork. Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes.

you have to add both sugar and syrup
