I need help with dominant and recessive genes?

8. In Michigan Wild Artichoke, Green and White fruit (G) are dominant to Maize and Blue fruit (g).

a. A heterozygous Green and White fruited plant is crossed with a Maize and Blue fruited plant. If 300 progeny are produced, how many do you expect to produce Green and White fruit? How many do you expect to produce Maize and Blue fruit?

b. A true-breeding Green and White fruit plant is crossed with a Maize and Blue fruit plant. The F1 is self-fertilized to produce 600 F2 progeny, how many do you expect to produce Green and White fruit and how many do you expect to produce Maize and Blue fruit.

c. what do you expect the genotypic distribution of the 600 F2 progeny produced in b to be?

u could estimate it to be 50/50. 150 green and white and150 maize n blue

the F2

3/4′s green and white 1/4′s blue and maize
450 green———150 blue and maize

c)3:1

a.
Green and white plant means it could be either GG or Gg
[dominant allele shows the characteristics]
since the questions says a *heterozygous* meaning different alleles then it must be Gg

Maize and Blue fruit ==> gg [only possible characteristic for maize and blue]

So now we have Gg crossed with gg

You can construct a table or a cross diagram.

Gg gg [parent fruits]

Gg , Gg, gg, gg [offspring]

Gg is Green and White==> probabilty of this is :

possible offspring/total offspring = 2/4 = 1/2

gg is Maize and Blue ==> probability of this is :

possible offspring/total offspring = 2/4 = 1/2

Given 300 are expected for offspring then 1/2 x 300 =
150 Maize and Blue fruit

NOTE: 150 Maize and Blue fruit are expected (a probability) which does NOT mean 150 are actually going to be Maize and Blue, we can NOT know the actual outcome, this is only a probability, the likelihood of a particular event happening.

I got tired for now, so as for parts (b) and (c) I hope someone else helps you out.

Have a good day.

a. 150 of these would produce the green and white, 150 would produce the maize and blue.

The cross is Gg x gg, which gives:

Gg gg

Gg gg
