I have this disease called,?
I have this disease called Celiac Sprue. Celiac is a disease where you have to eat all wheat/gluten free foods. I recently bought these Cashew nuts. On the ingredients it says “may contain wheat”. Do cashews actually have wheat in them?

No nuts don’t have gluten in them. I think the manufacture puts it there for legal reasons
Lately with everybody freaking out about peanut/egg/wheat allergies, a lot of companies have been putting those warnings on their food.
Basically what it means is that they produced their product in the same facility where a wheat containing product was made, so their is the possibility that a grain of wheat may have gotten in with the nuts. It’s all for legal purposes, so that if you get sick from eating them, you can’t sue, because it says on the label that it could contain wheat.
Good luck!
this is because they could come from the same factory where the make bread and could have been exposed tot the components bread is derived from. they dont actually have wheat but there is probably a 4% chance you get a reaction from them. depending how severe your disease’s symptoms are, your choice to take a risk.
I’ve even seen something like, “May contain wheat, milk, soy, peanuts, gluten, egg, lactose or other allergens.” See, that way they don’t have to change their labels no matter what they put into the product. How about whole wheat bread labeled, “May contain wheat,” or cheese, “May contain milk.” Well, duhhh.
Why they don’t just write, “100% Mixed Ingredients” instead?
Stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are good at finding and correctly labeling gluten-free foods.
You’re likely okay with the cashews, by the way, but you could ask your doctor. He’ll know the limits for your gluten intake.
It was produced on a line which had previously been used to process food containing wheat (perhaps coated nuts or something similar). Cashews are great, a wonderful protein source.
