i have a recipe which requires cayenne pepper but i have none – what can i use instead?
i am making a flour coating for chicken which requires flour, salt, pepper, paprika and cayenne pepper – i have no Cayenne pepper – what is a good alternative?

I would use the paprika as a sub and maybe a lil bit of chili powder if you have it.
red pepper. or just use more black pepper.
If you don’t have another hot spice to use, try tossing the chicken with a little Tabasco – or other hot sauce – before coating it with the flour mixture.
You could try crushed red pepper, but I would try to grind it finely or muddle it OR simply omit it all together. It is only in the dish to ad a bit of zip, but make it spicy.
if you have red pepper flakes grind them up and use, also paprika can be used, not much heat but good flavor.
Just increase the paprika.
Paprika and/or chile powder will add more spice to the dish.
