I have a recipe that calls for plain soy milk,can I use almond milk?



Okay so I have a recipe for scalloped potatoes that calls for 2 and a half cups of soy milk, but can I use vanilla almond milk instead? Because I don’t drink soy milk too often, and I feel like buying a half gallon would be wasteful. I think I also have some rice milk, but it may be too old.

So, do I have to use soy milk? If I don’t, should I use the almond milk or rice milk?

Okay I guess I was kind of vague. What I mean is, would it ruin the texture of the dish? Because the recipe also calls for butter and flour…I’m new to cooking, so I don’t know a lot about that stuff!

if you prefer almond milk then the change might improve the dish for you

You can use any milk for the recipe most say soy because it’s standard.
You should expect a slight variation in flavour though.

It’ll change the flavor a little bit, but it shouldn’t ruin the dish. Watch out mostly for the vanilla flavoring from the almond milk, as it could make your dish sweeter, depending on the proportions. Texture might be a hair thinner, but again, I don’t think it’ll be too big of a deal.

The way I cook, I hardly pay attention to recipe specifics, and use them more as guidelines, and things usually turn out okay. You can always taste test to see if it needs some additional flavoring.

I think it wouldn’t taste very good. I mean,vanilla and potatoes don’t exactly go well together. As for the texture,no,the texture should be the same if you use soy,rice,almond,oat and even real milk.
If you could use a plain rice milk,no sweetener and no vanilla,then that would be fine,too.
The thing with almond milk and milks with vanilla flavoring is that they are also made to be sweet-which also wouldn’t be very good with your potatoes,I would think.
