I got my budgie yesterday, & it hasn’t eaten? Or chirped?



I got Kiwi, my new budgie yesterday, but he hasn’t barely moved from perch to perch, eaten absolutely nothing, (even though i hung a whole millet spray in it’s cage, it’s not eating it!) & hasn’t chirped either! Does he just need more time to adjust? I have kept his cage door open for hours but he didn’t come out!

it may be nervous around new people give it food and don’t sit and watch to see just walk away.

The no chirping might be nervous or it’s lonely and needs a friend like another bird

He just needs to adjust. Dont leave the door open cause he will probably feel more secure in a closed area. You shouldnt expect him to just randomly come out the cage until you have tamed him at he trust you. My budgies were the same the first day but not for long. Just give your bird some time. You could also put some fruit in the cage (most fruits are ok but research it b4)

he needs time to adjust to his new home.. so just leave him alone for about 2 weeks i mean give him attention but dont try taking him out.. and i hope u got hes wings clipped.

GOOD LUCK HUN… JUST LET HIM SETTLE DOWN AND GET USED TO HIS NEW HOME AND EVERYTHIN WILL BE OK AFTER A WHILE ;)

He should be kept in his cage, door closed, for at LEAST 48 hours. Don’t try to play with him, clean his cage, change his food, etc.Taking him out or trying to play with him before this amount of time will cause him too much stress. He needs to get used to his new environment. After this, let him come out on his own terms, don’t force him out of the cage.

First off close the door to your cage! This is probably a youngish parakeet. Put the bird where he is going to reside and CLOSE THE DOOR!
After you have him tamed down and acclimated to your schedule then maybe let him out of his cage. I feel like a indoor bird should be clipped. This keeps him from breaking his neck when flying into doors, windows, mirrors, sink with water, walls and every thing else. He can and probably will break his neck or wings. This bird wouldn’t even know where to go if you got out of it’s cage. Then you would have to chase it down and catch it. This will not be a pleasant experience for you or your bird. An experience like being chased with a towel or net could ruin your birds trust of humans. Then it will bite every time you get near it. Give the bird a few days to a week or so and just feed it, water it, clean the cage and speak to it. Don’t worry about it sitting on your finger or it being scared. Give it time to adjust before you put further stress on it. Stress can kill a perfectly healthy bird in short order.

I was trying to breed a certain color of parakeet. I have a friend who was raising keets at the time also so we would both work on color projects together. I raise probably fifty babies trying to get the elusive color. Finally I had one in a nest of nine babies. I took the 29 day old baby out of the nest to anxiously show my friend that I had finally raised one. I opened my hand and the little bird flew off. It flew to the other side of the room where it ran head first into the wall and fell crumpled to the floor. It had broke it’s neck. It was three years before that pair of bird raised another baby that particular color. I was sick at the time. Your baby keet is probably a little older than my baby was which just means it can probably fly better.Patience is the key word on your parakeet. I know from you question that you don’t have a book on keets around. Go purchase a book and it will be the best money you have ever spent. I find them all of the time on Ebay for under $10 each, including shipping.

give him time, and try a small bird mirror. good luck and spray a fine mist of water on him to make sure he stays hydrated.

he needs to adjust more

Kiwi isn’t used to her new home yet. When I first got my parakeet Bella, for about the first week that I had her, she would just sit on her perch. Bella wouldn’t move, or chirp, or eat, or drink or play with her toys. Give Kiwi some alone time to adjust to her knew home before taking her out of her cage :)

Your budgie needs more time to get used to your house. Leave it for about a week. Don’t take it out or anything. Just leave it. It’s normal.

LOL! I JUST GOT A PARAKEET TODAY! HIS NAME IS ALSO KIWI! =) He hasn’t eaten either. But don’t worry, That’s completely normal. Though I mess with him, trying to pet him, I should let him be. He’ll get used to you… and the food you give him, soon. =) Hope I helped.

I got a budgie last week and she is just now getting used to her surroundings. The first 24 hours she did not eat, move or chirp but she is slowly coming around. I have been putting my hand in the cage several times a day so she is getting used to me and I can put my finger closer to her every day. I’m not in a rush to tame her. It will come with time.
