Hungry all the time?
I just found out I am pregnant last Friday. I have to go in for my first prenatal appointment to determine how far along I am, but I think I’m about 5-6 weeks.
Has anyone else experienced EXTREME hunger? I wake up with my stomach growling, get hungry in the middle of the night, and never feel full (unless I get bloated and gassy, which seems to happen after every time I eat). I’m trying to eat foods that are high in protein.
This morning I made 1/2 cup of oatmeal with lowfat milk and raisins and I’m eating strawberries on the side. For lunch I am going to have a bean and barley stew made with loads of vegetables, and for dinner I will have a chicken breast over whole wheat noodles with a sauce made of ground hazlenuts and shallots and mushrooms. I’ll also have a spinach salad made with quinoa, tomatoes, and avocado.I think my diet has enough nutrients, what do you think?

when I was pregnant about 6-7 months I woke up hungry all the time, but that is a little early for you to be feeling that way I would say.
yummy i saw your food now i am hungrty
Just eat good food and expeshaly green food….
I’m 19 weeks with twins and I’m famished ALL the time! I think I’m scaring my boyfriend.
Wow, your diet sounds fantastic!! When I was pregnant with my first daughter, I could down a whole pizza lol. But I did have cravings for salads and all sorts of certain foods. Yep you will be extremely hungry, you’ll get to deal with that for the next 9 months, and if you breastfeed, you’ll deal with it for a few more months!!
It’s a great excuse to eat whatever you want. hehe.
Sounds good. You are doing fine. Whenever you are hungry, eat. Try to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and take your prenatal vitamins. Have a happy pregnancy.
It was the opposite for me – I felt as though I could go the whole day without eating and my body wouldn’t mind. But I ate anyway to keep myself and baby healthy (:
Hope this helps,

sounds good. im 16 weeks and yes, being hungry all the time is normal. my doctor told me to try snacking inbetween meals. like trail mix or fresh veggies, stuff like that. it helps with the hunger. good luck and congradulations
babies are pretty tough in there. people in starving countries have babies all the time. I dont think you should try so hard. It sounds good though.
Instead of eating 3 meals, you need to eat 6 smaller meals. You baby need constant nourishment so if you eat more often you’ll feel much better.
Perfect diet!
I was starving from day one, AND had severe morning sickness so I lived on pineapple and cheese the whole 9 months :-S
Its all I could keep down!
Sounds like an awesome diet, very high in nutrients. Your baby ought to be nice and healthy. Eat away, you are eating for two now!!! Just try and avoid eating entire cartons of ice cream too often
Congrats!!
I had extreme hunger as well. Let’s just hope that you don’t get the nausea that eventually came along with mine.
Foods that are high in protein are very easy to digest. I found that if I added just a spoonful of something sugary and or fatty that the full feeling would stay for longer without making me too bloated. For example: I would have an apple for a snack and with it two tablespoons of peanutbutter. Keep up with the balanced diet, it sounds like you’re doing fine.
Good Luck!
I eat very similar foods as you and have been pregnant four times. With my first pregnancy, I was terrified of gaining too much weight so I often did not eat enough. Especially in weeks 9-11, you will want to make sure you add some snacks or those midnight growls and morning hunger pains may turn into extreme nausea.
My best suggestion, ditch the milk with the oatmeal and add some whey powder to get a little extra protein. Low fat milk is good, but it is pretty balanced on carbohydrates and protein; when added to other higher carbohydrate foods, you may need something with a bit more protein to make it last.
The other suggestion is to make sure you are getting enough fat. You say you are eating hazelnuts which is good, but you didn’t mention how much. Fat is essential for your baby’s nervous system and brain development. Fish, flax oil, a little olive oil here and there may help curb some of the hunger, too.
Third, try adding a few limited snacks just for a little while, especially if you experience nausea or extreme hunger. Try to mix it up and be willing to keep something by the bed to eat when you wake up. It may not seem that important now, but when you get a few more weeks along, it will really help.
