How to cook buckwheat?

I want to add a lot of whole grains to my family’s diet. I made a buckwheat recipe today. I rinsed the buckwheat, covered it with two inches of water, brought it to a boil and let it cook for seven minutes. Then I set it aside. All this was as per the recipe. It was a pilaf. I added onion and spinach.

It tasted pretty good, but looked disgusting! It was like library paste with white and gray congealed stuff. My family wouldn’t touch it. Is there any way to make it look more like rice or quinoa? It’s my impression that this stuff is great for you, and I really want to make it work.

He’s a grownup now so I’d recommend a really big pot.

Does this taste funny to you?

Try once you’ve finished the cooking process stirring and rinsing the mixture through with fresh boiling water, and draining off the resulting fluid (you can do this by having a tight lid on a saucepan with a small crack to let the fluid drain away). The grains left in the pan should be a bit more like cooked rice in texture.

It’s possible as well you might have over cooked it a little – try a little when cooking, and as soon as the grain is tender enough, eat.

Keep at it – I’m a fan of buckwheat, it’s lovely.

you can use it as a breakfast cereal with honey and cinnamin
I like it with butter and tamari..
