How do you cook rice in the oven?

Among all the links that I visited on how to cook rice in the oven, none of them gave me specific instruction how to cook rice in the oven. It’s only more convenient to do it on a pan rather than using a pot when serving a large group.

Base Recipe for Rice

• 1 1/2 cups rice, medium or short grain
• 2 1/2 cups water
• 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
• 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Place the rice into an 8-inch square glass baking dish.

Bring the water, butter, and salt just to a boil in a kettle or covered saucepan. Once the water boils, pour it over the rice, stir to combine, and cover the dish tightly with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 1 hour.

After 1 hour, remove cover and fluff the rice with a fork. Serve immediately.

I’ve successfully used olive oil instead of butter, used chicken broth in place of the water, butter, and salt, and doubled the recipe for larger gatherings.

Bake instant rice at 350 degrees with the same amount of boiling liquid and butter that you would use on the stovetop. (You can substitute beef or chicken broth for plain water.) Cover, and stir once midway through the cooking, which for instant rice, takes about 20-25 minutes. Long grain rice takes much longer — 45 minutes to an hour.

Or, you could substitute cream soup for the water, which is delicious. Cream of mushroom, cream of celery, or cream of chicken all work very well in this recipe. Use one can of soup, empty it out, and refill it with rice. Add a can of milk, blend everything together, and bake at 350 degrees until rice is tender.

This makes a great side dish with pork chops or chicken.

Here’s a site that tells you exactly what to do. Remember, you have to have boiling water in the first place before putting the whole thing in the oven.

i have something 4 ya. try this
hope it helps !

You take any pan…..like a cassarole dish or lasagna dish. You fill it about 1/4 full of rice, then add water or chicken stock till it is covering the rice. Spray pan with pam or add butter before baking to prevent sticking. When you bake this at 375 for 40 minutes it should be close to ready depending on your oven type.

Anyway, you can add chicken stock and some cut up chives, peas, carrots…..etc. For seasoned or pilaf rice. Sub the chicken stock for the water mentioned above.

You really cant get it too wrong and if you do….it’s just rice. Throw it out till you get it right.

This needs to bake covered, of course.

Best baked rice!
In a one and a half quart to two quart baking dish (square or round), spray dish with Pam or spray oil. Add one cup of rice, one can of French onion soup, one can of beef boullion soup, and one cup of water, AND one stick of butter. Bake in a 350 degree oven for one hour. You don’t need to cover it. You may add your own onions and just use two cans of beef boullion soup.
YUM!
For a crowd, I would just double the recipe and use a bigger baking casserole dish. You might not want to use two sticks of butter, though; one might still be enough.
