How Do You Cook Lentil Beans?

I’m vegan.
I hate cooking.
I’m a horrid cook.
And there are no directions on the package.

I have yellow and red beans. Can I cook the lentils like rice with just water and a little salt or does it require more thought?

Yes ,they are easy to cook but you need to use 3 cups of water per 1 cup of lentils.I add an onion to mine sometimes and serve it over rice.

Soak them overnight.
Then boil them.
See if you can get a pressure cooker to cook them, as it will be a faster process.

After you boil till the beans are soft, add whatever you want to them… pasta sauce, garlic, onions, tomatoes, spices and simmer over a slow fire

Add four times as much water as the beans. Cook in a pressure cooker for 5-10 minutes. In case you do not have a pressure cooker then, soak the beans overnight. Then add lots of water and cook them on slow fire.

Favorite Lentil Soup :

There is no need to purchase parsley for this hearty soup if you have some celery on hand. An equal amount of chopped celery leaves can be substituted for a similar fresh-flavor boost.

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 large onion, chopped

3 large carrots, chopped

1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

1 (28-ounce) can tomatoes, chopped

7 cups vegetable broth

1 1/2 cups dried lentils, rinsed

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1/3 cup chopped fresh parsley

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 50 minutes
Serves 6

1. Heat oil in a large pot over low heat. Add onion, carrots and thyme. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onion is tender, about 10 minutes. Add undrained tomatoes, broth and lentils to the pot. Bring to a boil.

2. Reduce heat to low. Cover; simmer soup, stirring occasionally, until lentils are tender, about 35 minutes. Add salt, pepper and parsley to pot. Simmer soup for 5 minutes longer.

cook on stove top with water on medium heat until tender [about 2 hours]
first rinse them several times to get clean, you add seasoning [to taste] and let them cook slowly, check and add water if water gets low.
you can add shredded carrots and it will be tasty and healthy
