Help?
I am up at the bum crack of dawn making my Mom a birthday cake before she wakes up. I started mixing the ingrediants and realized that I don’t have oil! I don’t have canola or vegetable shortening. Will the cake taste simply awful if I substitute oil with butter. Please help.
Thanks
I knew about the apple sauce unfortunately I don’t have any of that either.
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it.

you can use apple sauce,,,
you could use butter
No who says so? I usually use butter .
Butter should be fine. However be careful since it burns alot faster than oil so check your cake more often.
Your cake would taste better & smell better if you use butter.
Yes you can use butter but don’t use the salted one.
Substitutions:
margarine (This has an inferior flavor, makes bread crusts tougher and cookies softer, and may make cookies more difficult to shape. Avoid using it in flaky pastries.)
OR shortening (This has an inferior flavor, and compared to butter it makes cookies crunchier and breads crusts softer.
OR lard (This has an inferior flavor, but it makes flakier pastries than butter. Some cooks mix lard with butter to strike a balance between flavor and flakiness. Substitute four parts lard for every five parts butter called for in recipe.) See also: fat (for low-fat or no-fat substitutions)
I would personally use butter. (or apple sauce if I had it)
You could borrow from a neighbor. There have been several occassions where I had to ask my neighbor for a few eggs or brown sugar.
