Help! I am sooooo overwhelmed I just want to hibernate through Christmas?

HELP! I am siting at the bottom of a huge mountain of things to do before Christmas and I don’t know where to start! I live in CT and we just got pounded with snow and today is quite bad weather too so I can’t get out to finish Christmas shopping… and I need to get a grab bag gift ($20) for a Christmas party I’m going to Sunday. My house looks like romper room, I have crafts from making Christmas presents (many still incomplete) all over the dining room, I haven’t even wrapped any presents yet, and my kitchen is covered in baking/cooking supplies and organic grains, veggies and legumes because I just started making home-made baby food for my daughter! I haven’t put up the tree yet and with it being my daughter’s first Christmas I HAVE to have a tree for pictures, etc. (Right now I don’t even know where I would put it because my house is such a disaster! On top of all that I have to fill out and mail over 60 Christmas cards! My mom and sis are out of town for the weekend so I can’t call for help. Oh, AND I’m having Christmas dinner at my house this year and haven’t even started the grocery shopping for it! HELP!!! I am so overwhelmed right now I just want to scoop up my 8 month old daughter and go take a long nap until Christmas is over! Any suggestions (besides the obvious – get my butt off the computer and get to work, LOL) BTW – I’m taking a break. Wow I just realized I’m so busy I didn’t even get my little chocolate piece out of my advent calendar for the past 2 days… And I love chocolate!!! Where do I start. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I don’t even this Martha Stewart could pull this off!
Oh Europe… I would LOVE to delegate but there is no husband. It’s just me and Avary (my daughter) and I keep asking her to help but she doesn’t seem to get it, LOL!
Lucky Mommy – Thanks for your suggestions. I think eating the chocolate first will help a lot, LOL!

1. Get the chocolate out the calander and breathe
2. Make a list of all of the things to get done. Leave cleaning because by Thursday it will be messy again and you’ll have to repeat it all.
4. Finish making the baby food before it spoils.
3. Write your Christmas cards and get them in the post before it’s too late.
4. If you get chance today finish the gifts and see if you can make the extra gift you need.
5. When baby is asleep tonight try and wrap presents, if not wrap tomorrow.
6. Leave the tree until Monday or Tuesday. You won’t need it for pictures until the end of the week.
7. Save this as a reminder to start a little earlier next year.

But you will be fine… it’s what mums are best at.

Sounds like you’ve put too many expectations on yourself this Christmas. Seeing as you have a young baby, it is not surprizing that you’re overwhlemed. Having xmas at your place is asking a lot of you – and your relatives should realize that! I know it’s a nice idea, but is it worth it when it’s causing all this stress? You relatives should either be helping you out A LOT, or you need to tell them that you’d prefer to move it to another person’s place. That will get rid of a lot of your problems.

Secondly – xmas cards are not a priority. You are a new mother. People will understand if they don’t arrive until January! Or do a generic card /letter on your PC and print out 60 copies.

Neither is this gift you have to buy – just grab something on your way to the party.

Tell your husband you are stressed out, and that a major problem is all the accumulated mess clogging up the works. Husbands love problem-solving. Surely he can help you out there.

Same with the xmas tree. Why don’t you delegate that task to your partner? All he has to do is set ip up for you (let him figure out where) and then you and baby can have fun decorating it. And wahy can’t he help with grocery shopping? Write him a list and leave him to it.

Bottom line is, you need to delegate more instead of taking everything upon yourself. Then you can really enjoy this special time.
