Heating chocolate syrup as opposed to melting chocolate chips in a recipe?

A recipe I’m hoping to use calls for melted chocolate chips. I can’t go out and buy any right now. Would I be able to use chocolate syrup from Hershey’s instead?
I see. Ah well, I’m stuck. Thanks though.

I am betting not
. They are different as the syrup is already runny and does not set up so that is 1 difference. Also, most chocolate chips are semi sweet and the syrup is sweeter than that so you have another difference.

It depends on what it is for. The syrup will always be runny.

Nope. Chocolate syrup is essentially chocolate-flavored corn syrup. Chocolate chips are tempered chocolate [to help them keep their shape when baking in cookies]. Totally not the same thing. You’d do better with a chopped up candy bar.

YES, you can use the chocolate syrup but isn’t necessary to heat it. Decrease the liquid called for by about 2 tablespoons per cup of chips called for.

I have used Hershey syrup instead of chocolate chips at times, when I had the syrup available. Works very well.

the difference between chips and syrup: the chips have paraffin in them and the syrup doesn’t.
