Enough nutrients in milk?

I am breastfeeding my 3 month old exclusively. In general I maintain a healthy diet -wholegrain version of everything from rice over pasta to bread (not the toast but the real solid wholegrain bread with the grains visible), lots of veggies and pulses and dairy products. The only thing I hardly ever eat is meat. Not because I am a vegetarian but because where I live I hardly get good, local meat, except chicken. The last time I had
meat was when I made chicken soup from scratch about two weeks ago. Is that enough to provide all nutrients through my milk to my daughter? what are some plant based options except lentils and chickpeas, that provide nutrients found in meat?Is fish good -I am a bit hesitant about it because I read that fish often has more toxines than nutrients depending on where it is caught. Also I noticed that all the milk available is fortified with vitamins A and D.That might be ok, but I wondered if they still make milk without any additives.
Thankfull for any advice

it actually doesnt matter what you eat, your baby will get all the best nutrients and everything it needs, even if you were eating mcdonalds every day. but obviously its a great idea to stay healthy for yourself, and eat healthy too. And it doesnt matter if your not eating meat, your breast milk wont be affected. good luck! x

You don’t have to worry about what you eat in relation to what your breastmilk is composed of–it doesn’t work like that.

Your milk will always be perfect because your body will take from itself to make the right balance of nutrients for your baby.

We really don’t need that much protein, generally. You should check out some books and do some research on vegan and vegetarianism. Some plant based protein ideas: All kinds of beans, soy, nuts and seeds–including peanut products, sprouts, green vegetables, and quinoa. Eggs, dairy (like yogurts and cheeses) are excellent protein sources as well. You can get milk without additives, try at your local health food store, or see if there is a dairy farm in your area that will sell milk straight to you.

Your body will take whatever nutrients it needs from you to make the best milk for your baby. For example, if you don’t consume enough calcium, it will be taken from your bones to go in the milk.
The main reason you need to eat healthily is so that your body does not develop deficiencies and you are healthy enough to care for your baby!

Would you eat eggs? Eggs are an amazing source of nutrition for nursing moms and toddlers because of the fats and vitamins in them (the yolks in particular).

Depending on where you live it may be illegal to sell unfortified milk. I know its insane.

Use the same lists of which fish you can eat as you did in pregnancy. You can eat a bit more of each while nursing but its a pretty good guide overall.

How does a mother’s diet affect her milk?
“According to Katherine A. Dettwyler, Ph.D., breastfeeding researcher and anthropologist, women throughout the world make ample amounts of quality milk while eating diets composed almost entirely of rice (or millet or sorghum) with a tiny amount of vegetables and occasional meat.”
