Eggs are considered a meat yet they are in the dairy section of supermarkets?

Eggs are meat because of its high amount of protein but they are in the dairy section. Why?

Nutritionally, they are akin to meat as far as protein content.

In the US, they are sold in the dairy dept. b/c of custom, and people equate eggs and milk w/ a farm.

In Europe, eggs are sold on the shelf (no refrigeration) by the baking supplies. They are actually safe at room temp.

Because dairy is Farm Related, like Eggs/Milk/Cheeses.

sales technique. Same reason sourkraut is in the sausage isle. Placement of things in a store have absolutely nothing to do with common sense and everything to do with marketing. Most expensive, popular items at eye level, store brands, less expensive either way high or way low. didn’t you ever wonder why you had to stand on your head sometimes to check prices on some stuff?

I think they have high protein but I don’t think they’re considered meat.

What even chocolate eggs

They are not considered meat. They are indeed a protein and similar only in that. Eggs contain amino acids and is the cheapest and most readily available, quickest to prep, form of protein.

I have asked why stores market them this way. There is no answer for that and other marketing strategies that don’t seem to make sense. I think the reasons have become obscured over time. Like why at receptions do you find cake and nuts…I have supposed that the sweet is countered by the protein in the nuts to keep you from going over the edge with a sugar high…HA!

You also do not want to cross contaminate with blood. The shells are porous, could absorb foreign liquids and should not come in contact with blood as it can spread bacteria after sitting out.
