Does sugar have nutrients and is salt is acidic?

okay so in Bio we are doing an expieremnt to see if different sugar and salt solutions affected the germination of a kidney bean.
my hypothesis said that
If the kidney bean is soaked in sugar solution it will increase in size because sugar has nutrients in it..
so now i just need a source to prove that sugar has nutrients in it.
can anyone help me??
and i need a source that says salt is acidic
please dont give me wikipedia for a source that is not reliable the words from my teachy

The thing is, sugar doesn’t have nutrients in it. Sugar IS a nutrient.

Your hypothesis will be disproven.

HOWEVER
This is not a bad thing. Science is not about being right when you start – science is about LEARNING what is right through the scientific process.

EDIT:
Second part of your question: Salt is not acidic.

EDIT: Response to your wikipedia quote. Wikipedia is for the most part quite accurate. However, I recommend you look up sugar in your school libary encyclopedia or in your biology textbook.

wilkapedia.com is a decent source that has the info you are looking for.

Look up glycolysis on the net for a source on sugar. Sugar is glucose, and when it’s broken down during glycolysis it provides energy. I guess that’s what makes it a nutrient. You and I do that for energy, but can plants do that?

As for salt… I think you mean table salt? That’s NaCl (sodium chloride), and I’m sorry but that is not acidic. To test this take water and test the pH with pH paper. Then add some salt and test the pH again. You will find that the pH is the same.
