Could i use olive oil in a recipe that recalls veg. oil?

Im making brownies and in the recipe it says vegetable oil but i only have olive oil. Its the yellow olive oil not the virgin green kind, so you think it would be okay to use?

I would try it however there is a signifigant difference in terms of fat content and consistency between olive oil and vegetable oil so don’t be surprised if your brownies either take longer to bake or arent’ the same consistancy they usually are. IF you really want them to taste good, wait and go buy some veggie oil.

Use the light olive oil (it has less taste), it should be fine.

no olive oil is strictly for meats not for sweets….

I use extra virgin olive oil in EVERYTHING except baking and when I’m frying something like french fries or a fried dessert

Yes, as long as it’s not the fruity EVOO, with a distincive taste, should be fine.

shortening, margarine or butter would be better substitutes but olive oil will work in a pinch.

It wouldn’t hurt to try. Alot of Chef are using it in the baking now aday. Its suppose to be alot healthy for you.

Hey…you stole my name. And your avatar looks uncannily similar to mine.

I wouldn’t try it.
