Cooking For First Thanksgiving, What Do I Do?

So, basically, I’ve decided to take on the task of cooking everything for Thanksgiving by myself. I love cooking and baking, but I have no experience in the Thanksgiving department, as my family is Chinese and we don’t cook traditional Thanksgiving stuff. I’m just a bit overwhelmed, I’d really appreciate if you could help settle my qualms.

My main question is, what order should I follow when making things, and what can I prepare ahead of time, like the day before? Do I make the mashed potatoes before the rolls, or after the green beans, etc.?

Basically, I’m planning on making:
- Green beans
- Rolls
- Mashed potatoes
- Cranberry Sauce
- Butternut Squash Soup
- Turkey
-Stuffing
- Pumpkin Pie

Please and Thank You =)

Hi , Well I would prepare the turkey the night before and stick it in the refridgator, don’t put the dressing in it yet ok ! wait when you cook it ok . The pie you can do that the night before even the soup and store it in the fridge. The mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce green beans and rolls just get it ready to go for turkey day and do them when you cook the bird ok ! Good luck with ya dinner ! sounds yummy !!

Make your pie, cranberry sauce, soup, stuffing, etc. the day before. Spreading it out relieves a lot of pressure. If you’re making your own dough for the rolls, you can get that ready too.

When you take the turkey out of the oven, you have to let it rest for 30 minutes before you carve it. At that point you can put things in the oven or on the stove to heat them up.

I think you could make the soup and pie beforehand. You could make the stuffing the night before but don’t put it in the bird. That way outside of cooking the turkey, you would just have the veggies and mashed potatoes to do on Thanksgiving day. I have tried making mashed potatoes the day before but will admit they are just not as good. Once you have your menu organized, put together cute table favors and plan a fun game to play around the table. This site has great ones that you can print from your computer and they are all free.
Good luck. That same site also has a couple of good and easy recipes if you want to add something to your dinner menu.
