Cooking: Alternative to Almonds?

I’m making an edible cookie bowl. The recipe requires 1/4 cup almonds- are there alternatives to almonds and nuts? Or, do I even need to add that ingredient?
Recipe:
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup blanched slivered almonds, finely ground
1/2 tspn salt
4 tbspn butter(1/2 stick)
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Thanks for the great suggestions and help everyone!

use walnuts or pecans. It only calls for a 1/4 cup so I doubt it will make much difference. Maybe try some dry crunchy cereal if you don’t have any nuts.

I don’t think it would make a difference to leave it out. You could use grahm cracker crumbles or some other kind of crunchy thing if you like. Any other kind of nut or peanuts would work too.

You can leave out the nuts. Enjoy!

You do not need to add almonds but i would make a bit more of the recipe to make up for the almonds if you don’t use any

If you don’t like nuts, or are allergic to nuts, just LEAVE THEM OUT of you recipe. As long as you have the ‘important ingredients’ your edible cookie bowl should turn out just fine … in most recipes, there is a ‘note’ saying that the ‘nuts’ are ‘optional’ but that may have been ‘left out’ of the recipe you’re using. My one ‘bit of advice’ is that you may want to add some ‘liquid flavoring’ if there isn’t ‘vanilla’ in the recipe … sometimes the ‘flavor’ is all in the ‘nuts’ and it won’t taste as good unless you add some other flavoring … try ‘maple’ or ‘vanilla’ or even ‘mint’ if you want … but just add ‘a tiny bit’ because it’s LIQUID and too much liquid in place of something ‘hard’ may make your recipe not come out ‘feeling right’ and in a ‘cookie bowl’ you want it to be ‘hard’ but edible, not ‘floppy’ …

If it says to grind the almonds, I would say you need them. Otherwise what is their purpose? For taste? Decoration? could you possibly use pretzels?

YOu probably don’t need it, but you can put in cereal or coconut if you wish

In this recipe it looks as tho the almonds are needed, b/c they are ground up they are adding to the flour……….however you may be able to subsitute a little flour instead of the almonds and add a bit of almond flavoring instead……I’m not sure though

Ground pecans or ground hazelnuts would also be great

use some pecans….or just omit the nuts all together
