Coffee Experts, question for you?

When I buy flavored coffee, like hazelnut, or chocolate, it always SMELLS great… but it never tastes like anything but coffee!! LOL Is it just me, or is that as good as it gets? Are there any tricks to getting it to actually taste like the package says? I bow to your superior wisdom, barristas, explain it so a simple coffee novice can understand.. :)

I prefer to take my favorite regular coffee, Kona and flavor it will real stuff from my kitchen. Coco, vanilla and cinnamon add wonderful flavors without chemicals.

For example, Christmas morning I take two teaspoons of Coco powder and sprinkle it on top of the coffee before brew. The brewing process infuses the coffee with the natural flavor. Then of course, I use a candy cane as a stirrer.

The best way to get flavor in coffee is to keep it real.

I’m not really sure what the problem is but I have noticed if I do not clean my coffee making equipment very thoroughly it will have an off or even terrible taste. why don’t you try that. first.
There are several types of cleaners meant just for coffee machines.
Also start with good tasting water. it stands to reason if your water tastes bad, so will the coffee and anything else made with it.
Good luck

thats as good as it gets

The smell gets a lot of people and the taste turns them off.I like both, but if you want to change the taste, try some old fashioned ways.Milk and sugar for instance will work wonders at times, try dropping a piece of chocolate in there too.
You can shave it so that it melts and blends quickly.
Try the coffee flavoring creams such as Nescafe would offer.
You can get hazlenut cream and really take most of the coffee flavor out of the drink.

Flavored coffees work by coating the beans with a flavoring agent. This doesn’t always work the best because the flavoring agent doesn’t -brew- like coffee does.

If you really want coffee that TASTES like hazelnut or chocolate, it’s best to add the flavor after you make the coffee. People are too lazy to do this, so they buy the flavored beans. You can get syrups (like Torani or DaVinci syrups) and add a teaspoon or two. You can get flavors actually made just for coffee, and you only use a few drops (but these are hard to find these days). You can add liqueurs like Irish Cream or Hagen Das or various flavors of schnapps.

If you normally drink your coffee with cream, there are some flavored non-dairy creamers that are not too bad.

Also, not to be forgotten, if you grind your beans just before you make your coffee (and you -should-!) there are herbs you can add to coffee when you grind it. Cardamom, for instance, which does ‘brew’ along with the coffee just fine. Or cinnamon (cinnamon tends to clog up the filter, though.)

just stop buying flavored coffee and buy regular
