Can you substitute sesame seeds for pine nuts in a pesto sauce?
Can you substitute sesame seeds instead of pine nuts for a pesto sauce? I’m allergic to nuts, and am wondering if this would be a good alternative (if I toasted the sesame seeds). I plan on making it in my blender, so would the blender grind up the sesame seeds or not? This is for tomorrow night’s dinner and I am having guests over so I want it to be unique. If you do not think this would work, do you have any other suggestions? I want it to have that nutty flavor without the actual use of nuts.
Thanks.

Yeah you can. Don’t worry too much about it. I’m sure the dinner will come out great.
Yes you can but It won’t have the same taste. You can add mushrooms which will give it an earthy taste, close to pine nuts. You can just leave out the pine nuts and subsitutes alltogether, and it will be just fine. Good luck, but I have 1 tip for you. Add some parmasan cheese to your pesto and it will make the sauce so much richer and flavourfull
I would use regular peanuts for the pine nuts, its similar in taste and texture
