Can you develop an allergy to nuts after 23yrs?
I’ve never been allergic to nuts before but tonight I had some Butter Pecan Ice Cream and while eating it, the inside of my throat was getting kind of irritated and itcy. Now it is so itchy inside my throat that I am coughing and breathing harder than usual. I’m not in any other pain or anything and now that I’m typing this out it’s actually starting to get better. Do you think it was the pecans in it? Or something else? I’ve had pecans before without any reaction but it is my first time eating butter pecan ice cream.

yes you can always
Everyones bodies change after years.
You can develop a new allergy every 4 years.
Yes, you can develop an allergy to nuts later in life. My FIL had to go to the ER after eating a can of mixed nuts in his 40′s. Turned out to be a particular nut (I forget which now) that he had always been able to eat before.
Take some benadryll.
You can develop an allergy any time in your life, even to foods that you have eaten up until that time. If this happens again, your reaction may be more severe. You should talk to your doctor about what happened so you can prepare for a more severe reaction. If you ever have trouble breathing after eating something, you should seek immediate emergency medical help.
It could be the nuts or any of the added ingredients in the ice cream, my Grandfather a few years back had developed an allergy to yellow #5 and now can’t eat certain foods containing it that he has eaten all his life. You would have to have an allergy test done to specify what you are allergic to if allergic at all. Good Luck
First of all take Benedryl immediately !! If your symptoms continue or become worse call 911!!! You can become allergic to any thing at any time in your life and you in fact have a allergic reaction right now!

Some people develop an allergy after many years of exposure to something, so, yes, it’s possible. It sounds like you are allergic to the pecans or something else in the ice cream.
Yes you can. Take some Benadryl for the reaction.
