Can light corn syrup be replaced with a different kind?

I have a recipe that calls for about 3tsps of light corn syrup, but I don’t really want to go out and buy it just for that. What could be used as a replacement? I have vegetable oil, olive oil, and canola oil. Would any of those do?

Nope – not at all.

NO, don’t use the oils! The syrup is a sugar, the oils will mess up what your making. You should probably just break down and get it from the store.

Nope – oils aren’t replacements for corn syrup. 1 c sugar + 1/4 c water – boiled until the sugar is dissolved and thickens a little would be the only replacement I can think of. Naturally you don’t need that much so cut it down to 1/2 c sugar + 1/8 c water. You could go a little lower by 1/4 c sugar + 1 1/2 T water – for that quantity, zap it in the microwave, giving it a stir as it boils. Make sure you are using a microwave safe bowl because it will get very hot.

I don’t think so, but if I had to guess I would say the only thing would be simple syrup which is even parts of sugar andwater boiled till the sugar melts. but it is a completely different consistancy

Regular syrup could be substituted.

1/2c light corn syrup = 1/2 c granulated sugar plus 2 T liquid

Have used regular syrup many many times..it has a pleasant maple flavor and cooks up just as well.
